A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of the Mid-Atlantic until 10 p.m. The Tornado Watch includes virtually the entire NWS Washington, D.C./Baltimore forecast region. The full text of the watch from the Storm Prediction Center is below.

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
CENTRAL AND EASTERN MARYLAND
NORTH-CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA
EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA PANHANDLE
COASTAL WATERS

* EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 230 PM UNTIL 1000 PM EDT.

* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE…
SEVERAL TORNADOES POSSIBLE
SEVERAL DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
A FEW LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 1 INCH IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 70 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 15 MILES EAST OF DANVILLE VIRGINIA TO 40 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF BALTIMORE MARYLAND.

REMEMBER…A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
